Biseptol is a complex antibacterial medication containing co-trimoxazole, a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Both components act on the same biochemical pathway, providing enhanced antibacterial effect and slower development of bacterial resistance. The medication is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with maximum blood concentration occurring 1-4 hours after oral administration. Therapeutic concentrations appear in many body tissues and fluids.

Indicații: Urinary tract infections caused by susceptible strains of E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Morganella morganii, Proteus mirabilis and Proteus vulgaris. Acute otitis media caused by susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae. Gastrointestinal tract infections caused by Shigella spp. Pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis jirovecii (confirmed by microbiological examination) and prophylaxis of infection with this pathogen in immunocompromised patients. Traveler's diarrhea in adults caused by enteropathogenic E. coli.

Dozaj: Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 960 mg (2 tablets) twice daily. Treatment duration: 10-14 days for urinary tract infections, 14 days for chronic bronchitis exacerbation, 5 days for gastrointestinal infections. Children 6-12 years: 480 mg every 12 hours. For Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia: 90-120 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 hours for 21 days. Prophylaxis: 960 mg once daily for 7 days. Tablets should not be divided. Oral administration only.

Compoziție: Co-trimoxazole: sulfamethoxazole 400 mg and trimethoprim 80 mg per tablet.
